At the end of this course, the students; 1) Understand the general features of the Turkish education system from 1970 until today. 2) Comprehend the general features of the Ottoman education system. 3) Explain famous educators and their contributions to the Turkish education system. 4) Compare the Turkish education system before and after Islam. 5) Describe the meaning of education and instruction and have a clear conception about the content of history of Turkish education.

The subject, method and sources of Turkish education history; education in the first Turkish states; education in the first Muslim Turkish states; Education in Turkey Seljuks and Anatolian Principalities; Education in the Ottoman Empire: The education system until the first innovation movements; 13-18. education in Turkish states outside the Ottoman geography in the centuries; Innovation movements in education in the Ottoman Empire until the Tanzimat; The establishment of the modern education system from the Tanzimat to the Republic; reorganization of traditional education; 19-20. education in other Turkish states and communities in Eurasia in the centuries; education in the period of national struggle; Education in the Republic of Turkey: The foundations, structure, establishment and development of the Turkish education system; teacher training process from the beginning to the present; Education in the Turkish world in the 21st century; common goals, language and alphabet unity, joint history writing exercises.
