1) Analyze the relationship between cinema, city and architecture.
2) Learn and utilize the cinematic way of seeing and thinking.
3) Learn the methods of montage and analyze its relation with architectural design.
4) Improve skill on production and interpretation of space through movie analyses.
5) Associate architectural movements with cinema, cinema with architectural and urban space production.
6) Acquire a critical perspective on the production, representation and perception of space.

COURSE DEFINITIONThis course aims to examine the similarities between cinema and architecture, which are directly related to the production, representation, and perception of space. In the first part of the course, theoretical presentations and discussions will be conducted on the spatial construction and representation methods throughout the historical process, the development of cinema and cinematic space, the influence of architecture on cinema-architectural movements on cinema. Furthermore, the course aims to explore the cinematic images and symbols that cities possess and their impact on urban space production and perception. In addition to theoretical discussions, the course will also involve film screenings and analysis to reinforce the topics covered and enable students to develop a critical perspective on the relationship between architecture, city and cinema. At the end of the course, students will be expected to prepare a report by conducting research and analyzing films on the topics specified.

3rd Week Space: Production, perception and meaning of space
4th Week Architecture and Cinema: Introduction to the history of cinema
5th Week Architecture and Cinema: Architecture in cinema
6th Week Architecture, City and Cinema: Architecture and cinematic images
7th Week City and Cinema: The role of cinema on production, interpretation and transformation of urban space
8th Week MID-TERM
9th Week Student Presentations: Screening of Film 1, examination of details, and evaluation.
10th Week Student Presentations: Screening of Film 2, examination of details, and evaluation.
11th Week Student Presentations: Screening of Film 3, examination of details, and evaluation.
