At the end of this course, the students; 1) Discuss the changing and/or unchanging aspects of architectural practice and theory throughout the history. 2) Explain and interpret on given texts. 3) Analyze and compare on given texts. 4) Analyze and evaluate written material on architecture from formal and contextual perspectives.

COURSE DEFINITION
The prominent focus of the course locates around the contemplation of the two significant books of the architectural history: De Architectura (The Ten Books on Architecture) of Marcus Vitruvius Pollio, and I quattro libri dell?architettura (The Four Books of Architecture) of Andrea Palladio. Throughout the course, students will analyze the books from the timeless aspects of architectural practice and theory: language, image of architect, idea of history, functionality, materials, city, engineering, housing, religion, technology and aesthetics.
