LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT At the end of this course, the students;
1) Learn the description, general properties and the types of stem cells.
2) Learn the markers that specify the plasticity of stem cells.
3) Learn The molecular mechanisms of self-renewal, proliferation, differentiation, dedifferentiation and senescence of stem cells.
4) Learn different types of stem cells; their sources, properties and applications in regenerative medicine.
5) Learn different types of niches that harbor the specific types of tissue / organ stem cells
6) Learn the laboratory techniques (isolation, characterization, differentiation and molecular techniques and microscopic analyses) that are used during stem cell studies.
7) Know the applications of stem cells in the field of tissue engineering.

COURSE DEFINITIONStem Cell Biology course gives information about the molecular mechanisms that regulate the development, function and the behavior of stem cells in their microenvironment (niche), types/stem cell and about the applications of stem cells in the field of regenerative medicine and tissue engineering. It also describes the laboratory techniques that are used during stem cell research.
