COURSE DEFINITION
To enchance vocal ability in popular and Jazz music styles. Preparing the vocalist for the stage in Jazz, Bebop, Latin, Musical Theater and Rock styles by providing compatibility between voice and body.
COURSE CONTENTS

TOPICS
1st Week
Microphones: how to choose the correct microphone, microphone techniques.
2nd Week
Choosing the semesters repertuar, picking the right key, transposition. Ways to transfer known breathing techniques into contemporary songs.
3rd Week
Work on chosen Jazz Standard, figuring out correct era and interpretation, discovering proper breathing techniques.
4th Week
Work on chosen ballad, use of breath during a ballad performance, tone and interpretation.
5th Week
The rhythmic and harmonic differences between the Bebop and Swing eras, articulation exercises.
6th Week
Work on chosen Bebop song, focusing on lyrics, articulation and intonation.
7th Week
Work on chosen Latin song, focus on different rhythmic ideas without changing the tempo.
8th Week
Midterm
9th Week
Vocal registers: Belting and how it is used in Rock style vocals.
10th Week
Work on chosen Rock song, focus on proper use of the belting technique.
11th Week
Work on chosen Musical Theater song, go over the differences and similarities of Musical Theater from all other styles.
12th Week
Stand on memorization of all lyrics for the chosen repertuar. Strengthening the brigde between interpretation and presentation.
13th Week
Focusing on the performance: execution of chosen songs on stage, use of

Presentation of all chosen song for the semester in decided order.
