At the end of this course, the students; 1) will be able to know sound components, musical symbols and their definitions, categorize and hear intervals, distinguish major and minor tones with knowing tonality concept, know church modes and read modal pieces.

Recognizes signs related to musical writing, learns terms related to performance, structure and features of intervals.
Learns, recognizes theoretical and auditory, major, minor tonalities and pieces written in ancient modes.

Dynamics and tempo terms.

Simple and compound meters.
8th Week
Midterm exam.

Tonality, major-minor keys, related keys, key relations.
10th Week
Tranposition.
11th Week
Church modes.
12th Week
Whole step, half step, seconds, thirdsi fourths and fifths.
13th Week
Sixths, sevenths, diminished, augmented and compound intervals.

Identifying intervals melodically and harmonically.
