LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT At the end of this course, the students;
1) will be able to identify all of the intervals within an octave; they can sight read non-complex pieces in 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 2/2, 3/8 and 6/8 meter that use whole, half, quarter, eighth and sixteenth notes.

COURSE DEFINITIONProviding the student with tools to correctly and effectively read music in their own field as well as the ability to notate what they hear.
COURSE CONTENTS
WEEKTOPICS
1st Week The Scope of the course, the formation of sound and properties of frequency.
2nd Week Whole note, half note, the concept and classification of intervals; reading the treble clef.
3rd Week Time and measure; recognizing intervals.
4th Week Practice readinging whole, half, quarter, eighth and sixteenth notes in 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 2/2, 3/8 and 6/8 meter.
5th Week Dictating single voice melodies at the same level as learned reading.
6th Week Rhythmic reading; practice reading two-line rhythms.
7th Week Reading and dictation in the bass clef. Minor and
8th Week MIDTERM
9th Week The concept of a tonality; relationships between keys. Related keys, dominants and subdominant keys.
10th Week Reading and dictating in 3/8 and 6/8 meters.
11th Week Reading and dictating in 2/2 meters.
12th Week Reading and dictating minor and mafor scales with altered sounds.
13th Week Reading and dictating melodies that cross into related keys.
14th Week Plagal, Authentic and Full cadances.
