At the end of this course, the students; 1) analyze global political/economic inclinations' reflections within the urban scale. 2) analyze the relationship between urban politics and national politics. 3) examine how the transformation in urban politics/economics is reflected in space and institutions. 4) acquire solid information about cities' transformation especially in Turkey.

COURSE DEFINITION
This course aims to understand the concept of urbanization and its relationship with politics. It deals with the issues including the emergence of urban politics, repercussions of urbanization on social, political, cultural and economic spheres, the historical development of urbanization, the relationship between modernization and urbanization, and the importance of concepts such as space and place. Following discussions around these topics, the course will have a special focus on urbanization in Turkey and its impact on politics.
