At the end of this course, the students; 1) Have knowledge about the important developments in political history, comment on them and develop a comparative perspective with regard to different periods in history. 2) Analyse current developments from a historical perspective. 3) Eexamine political history from a theoretical perspective. 4) Have knowledge about internal and external politics in political history.

COURSE DEFINITION
Brief information about the course content: The aim of this course is to cover the major political, social and diplomatic events in Europe from the 1500s to the 1960s. The course will begin with the rise of the West in the world in political, economic and technological terms and will continue with the discovery of new continents and the creation of colonial empires. The establishment of France as the first modern state in Europe, the spread of balance of power policies as a result of the unification of other states against this country, the Spanish and Austrian Succession Wars, the British-French rivalry in North America and the American and French Revolutions will be examined. After the Napoleonic Wars and the Vienna Regulations of 1815, the Revolutions of 1830 and 1848 will be discussed and the establishment of the national states of Italy and Germany and their consequences will be explained. The system of alliances, balance of power policies, the causes and consequences of the war on the way to the First World War will be discussed.
