LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT At the end of this course, the students;
1) Acquire knowledge on symptoms and etiology of trauma.
2) Learn what the individual and wide scale traumas are.
3) Acquire knowledge of different theories in the trauma literature.
4) Learn the post-traumatic disorders.
5) Learn approaches of intervening to post-traumatic disorders.

COURSE DEFINITIONIn this course students acquire the knowledge of psychological trauma, traumatic experiences and how individuals may be affected by traumatic experiences. Another important purpose of the course is to teach theories of psychological trauma. The topics that will be covered through the course as follows: Theories of psychological trauma, prevalence of traumatic stress, biological bases of traumatic stress reactions, psychological risk factors, Acute Stress Disorder Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, post-traumatic growth, natural disasters and trauma, human-made trauma.
