LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT At the end of this course, the students;
1) Differentiates and compares concepts such as loss, and mourning.
2) Analyzes the grieving process by using theoretical approaches related to grief.
3) Compares and exemplifies prolonged grief and normal grief.
4) Express the differences between grief counseling and grief therapy and relate their similarities.
5) Diagnoses problems that can be solved by using applications related to mourning.

COURSE DEFINITIONThe aim of the course make students be aware and prepared for grief and loss related difficulties which they may confront in their private and professional life. This course contains loss and grief related concepts and theories. Theories of pioneers such as Kubler Ross, Worden, Rando and Wolfet are reviewed. In this context, the meaning of loss and grief, varying rituals due to socio-economic and socio-cultural factors, protective factors during grieving, coping with loss, resistance and case studies are discussed.
