At the end of this course, the students; 1) Define the family functioning, systems that make family and effects of culture on family. 2) Explain different family therapy approaches and their main assumptions. 3) Distinguish the similarities and differences between different family therapy approaches. 4) Interpret how family therapies are utilized in different problems. 5) Be informed about psychotherapy process in general.

COURSE DEFINITION
The main aim of this course is to inform students about theories and models of family therapy. Students are expected to acquire knowledge of family functioning, systems that make family and effects of culture on family. The topics that will be covered through the course as follows: Fundamental theories of family therapy, systemic models, psychodynamic models, intergenerational models, experiential models, strategic models, cognitive-behavioral models, effects of gender and culture on family functioning, children focused problems, adult focused problems.
