LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT At the end of this course, the students;
1) They can explain the basic concepts and theories of health psychology.
2) Interpret the effects of mind-body interaction on health and disease.
3) They can relate their thinking processes to health and illness.
4) They can compare the research and application areas of health psychology.
5) They will be able to criticize the research and applications of health psychology specific to certain diseases.

COURSE DEFINITIONIn this course, firstly, the historical development of health psychology, after introducing research methods, the definition of health, the biological and psychological factors underlying health and disease, the relationship between stress and health, and the importance of managing stress will be discussed. Then, under the title of health-related behaviors, proper nutrition, obesity and eating disorders, addiction problems, compliance with treatment and cooperation will be discussed. In addition, the psychology of chronic and fatal diseases and the approaches of health psychologists towards people with chronic diseases or fatal diseases are among the topics to be discussed. Among the other topics to be discussed are the current state and future of health psychology, and the programs that health psychologists can apply to other health care teams working in health institutions.
