At the end of this course, the students; 1) know and appreciate, in terms of theme, topic, theory, genre and content, various texts selected from different literatures; 2) critically understand and analyze different literary works comparatively with reference to a literary, social, cultural, political, ideological and historical context; 3) make critical comments on the texts selected from different literatures with a specified theme, topic or genre and appreciate different points of view; 4) enhance their general knowledge and appreciation of literature.

COURSE DEFINITION
In this course, texts selected from Turkish and world literature, including American and English literature, are studied with regard to form, content, and style, and also in relation to a specific topic.
COURSE CONTENTS
WEEK
TOPICS
1st Week
Introduction, focusing on the subject and contents of the course. Then the meaning of the term ?comparative literature? is explained, followed by an account of the principles, ways and aims of comparative literary study. Moreover, the cultural and literary uses of a comparative study of different literatures in our world today.
2nd Week
The thematic or topical, generic, narrative and textual aspects of the texts to be studied in this course are detailed out. An overall assessment and analysis is made of the texts selected for study.
3rd Week
Undertaking a comparative study and critical analysis of the selected texts in terms of theme, topic, genre, narrative, contents, semantic depth, and cultural as well as literary significance.
4th Week
Comparative study and critical analysis of the texts continued.
5th Week
Midterm I
