COURSE DEFINITIONFilm Critics is designed for the students who are interested in cinema and willing to improve their analysing skills at competent level. Inthe course, film critics approaches will be studied by watching and establishing a mutual relations with suitable films.

1st Week Introduction of the course
2nd Week Examining the relations of film critics and philosophy / introduction to the sociological approach
3rd Week Film screening about the sociological approach (12 Angry Men, Sidney Lumet, 1957)
4th Week Examining the ideological approach
5th Week Film screening about the ideological approach (They Live, John Carpenter, 1988)
6th Week Examining the historical approach in the film critics / examining the cognitive approach in the film critics
7th Week Discussing the semantics and semiology / examining the semiological approach in the film critics
8th Week Mid-term exam
9th Week Film screening about the semiological approach (Barton Fink, Ethan & Joel Coen, 1991)
10th Week Discussing about the auteurs in the film history / examining the auteur approach in the film critics
11th Week Film screening about the auteur approach (La Notte, Michelangelo Antonioni, 1961)
12th Week Reading, discussing and interpreting of the homeworks
13th Week Discussing the director choices for evaluating film, examining mis en scene criticism
14th Week Final exam
