LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT At the end of this course, the students;
1) will analyze the relationship between the social policy and social work, and they will have strong opinion about the common functions of these both disciplines in the scientific and practical areas
2) will gain knowledge and ability to create appropriate social policies by evaluating the social and economical conditions and structures of the community/society
3) will have advanced knowledge and opinion about the social policies and social welfare systems in Turkey and other countries; and they can reach the level of ability to design and recommend alternative policies and service delivery systems

COURSE DEFINITIONIn this course fundamental issues are studied like the concept of social welfare; the importance of social policies and human services to enhance the human well beings; structural aspects of the organizations in the area of health, social services and the other human services; social legislations and human rights; the quantative and qualitative features of the delivery systems of human services. The purpose of the course is to help the student to familiarize and understand the basic concepts of the social policy, human services and social services programmes; to study the national and international social policies and welfare systems; and to understand the importance of the relationship between the social policy and social work.
COURSE CONTENTS
WEEKTOPICS
1st Week Discussion of the course contents. Study of the fundamental conceps like human needs, welfare, social welfare, human services, social srvices.
2nd Week Analysis of the concept of social policy and its' relation to social work.
3rd Week Analysis of values, aims and functional characteristics of social policy.
4th Week Analysis of determinants and tools of social polcy.
5th Week Analysis of the main thoughts which plays important guidance role for social policies.
6th Week The role of the state and the civil society to develop social policies.
7th Week How to make social policies. Process of creating social policy.
8th Week Mid-term exam.
9th Week Organizational structure of social welfare and analysis of service delivery systems.
10th Week Social policies related with the clinical social work practice.
11th Week Analyis of social policies in European Union.
12th Week Analysis of methods and approaches of the social policy researches.
13th Week Students presantation,
14th Week Students presantation; general evaluation of the course.
