General Information
The Başkent University Institute of Science and Technology Department of Occupational Health and Safety was established in 2016. There are two masters degree programs in the Department of Occupational Health and Safety, one being with a thesis, and the other being non-thesis. The objective of these masters degree programs is to provide a scientific and systematic base-line approach to issues that encompass all industries, such as periodic risk assessments, ensuring that production is carried out in accordance with legislatively defined health and safety rules, establishing workplace emergency action plans, examination and reporting of accidents and accident sites, implementation of occupational health and safety trainings, storage and disposal of industrial pollutants in a manner that will not harm the environment etc. As it is well known, occupational health and safety has become an independent field of science in developed countries. The interest to the field of occupational health and safety is also gradually rising with the increase in studies conducted in this field and the development and improvement of legislative regulations regarding occupational health and safety. Small, medium and large scale industrial establishments are required to undertake appropriate precautions and organize their workplaces in accordance with the enacted legislations regarding occupational health and safety. Thus, with university-industry collaboration, scientific methods and analysis can be implemented in the industry to ensure increase in efficiency. Additionaly, with the information and possibilities provided by the industry, it will be possible to carry out important scientific publications and studies regarding occupational health and safety.
It has been defined by law in the Regulation on the Duty, Authority, Responsibility and Training of Occupational Safety Experts on article 8.b.2 that engineers, architects or technical personnel that have undertaken a MASTERS DEGREE in the field of occupational health and safety shall be admitted a class (B) occupational safety expert certificate if they are successful in class (B) occupational safety expert exam?. Based on this article, graduates from our Thesis/Non-Thesis Masters Degree programs shall have the right to directly enter the class (B) occupational safety expert exam.
The language of education in the Thesis/Non-Thesis Masters Degree programs of the Başkent University Institute of Science and Technology Department of Occupational Health and Safety is Turkish.
