1) Can write the counterpoint part over/under a given cantus firmus.
2) Analyze the background counterpoint organization in a given work.
3) Can demonstrate similar approaches in a 3 part-motet he/she compose.

COURSE DEFINITIONTo be able to understand combinations of the species in 3 part counterpoint. Can work in all types from four-voice counterpoint to the syncopated type.
COURSE CONTENTS
WEEKTOPICS
1st Week The scope of the course. A melanges (mixture) practice in which unity, duality and syncope periods are used in three-voice counterpoint.
2nd Week A melanges (mixture) practice in which unity, dual and quatrain periods are used in three-voice counterpoint.
3rd Week A melanges (mixture) practice in which unity, quatrain, and syncope periods are used in three-voice counterpoint.
4th Week 5/4 measure melanges work.
5th Week 3/2 measure melanges work.
6th Week Variant 1 in four-voice counterpoint.
7th Week Type 2 in four-voice counterpoint.
8th Week Midterm
9th Week 3rd Variant in c.f subpart in four-voice counterpoint.
10th Week Quarter times in four-voice counterpoint, 3rd Variety in sub-part.
11th Week In four-voice counterpoint c.f. Variety 4 in sub-lot.
12th Week Duration with syncope in four-voice counterpoint, Variant 4.
13th Week 5th Type (with embroidery) in four-voice counterpoint, major and minor customs.
14th Week Type 5 (with embroidery) in dorian and frigian customs in four-voice counterpoint.
